Three representatives from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) have survived an accident on their way to the Intervarsity competition in Lagos on Monday, ECHO MEDIA gathered.

This has made the debaters drop out of the competition.

The accident occurred along Ilesa road, Ikeji around 10:23 am on Monday when the public bus conveying 18 passengers collided with another, ECHO learnt.

Recall that the Intervarsity debate competition is slated to hold at Lagos State University (LASU) from Monday 24th to Friday 29th, 2021. Ten institutions are to participate in the competition.

The three debaters from AAUA were  Adesola Ikulajolu from Mass Communication, Adekunle Folorunsho from Political Sciences, and Abdul Haqq from Law. They were to represent AAUA in the debate competition.

According to one of the debaters, the 65yr-old driver swerved his hand in an attempt to avoid being hit by an oncoming trailer into the bush.

"The driver was on high speed when suddenly an oncoming trailer faced us. The driver tried to avoid collision with the trailer and hit a bus swerving into the bush."

He added that "Although we were not injured, some other persons were seriously injured. If not for the FRSC who came to our rescue."

The accident claimed no lives but left many injured.

Meanwhile, ECHO learnt that the AAUA debate team will no longer be participating in the competition because they returned to the campus.

ECHO can authoritatively report that discrepancies had filled the debate when the Students Union of AAUA could not provide means of transportation for the representatives to convey them to Lagos.

The three representatives received donations from concerned AAUAITES to embark on the journey to represent the institution.

However, the competition has continued in Lagos with Ekiti State University (EKSU) also absent.
