MISS NIDSUG VISITS AAUA DSA, REVEALS PLANS FOR OFFICE

Adedokun Boluwatife, Josephine Adetula, and Friday Omosola

The Grand Winner of Miss Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG), Amodu Blessing, has announced plans to empower the youths and less privileged while in office.

She revealed these recently during a courtesy visit to the Adekunle Ajasin University, Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Olusegun Owolewa

Recall that she was announced Miss Niger Delta Students Union Government on the 26th of June 2021, after competing with contestants from the nine oil-producing states: Akwa-Ibom, Abia, Anambra,  Edo, Delta, Ondo state, Rivers and Cross rivers, Imo.

Amodu who is also a final year student of the Department of Criminology, AAUA,  stated her patriotism to service and eagerness to take the office of Miss NIDSUG to its peak.

Blessing affirmed her readiness to impart lives and fight for the less privileged by organizing programs that will enlighten and sensitize citizens of the Niger Delta on their values.

"My goals are positivist are enormous. It is good to be focused and determined in life. The lack of resources and rate of insecurity in this nation has triggered me to organize a lot of programs; especially for female students."

In an attempt to know how she's going to address the issue of oil pollution in the Niger Delta, she noted that "The issue of oil pollution and vandalization is currently been addressed by the federal government and they are still on it."

When addressing youths' education, she said, "The fact that young people do not have access to education does not define them as failures in life.

"There are a lot of students who even graduated from University that are just certified with a certificate. They are not qualified.

"There are youths who are innovative, creative and can easily build themselves in the aspects of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition."

However, she stressed the need to build youths up industrially, and teach them some handworks in a bid to be independent.

"When the resources are present I will make sure I look into the educational aspect by soliciting for support so that a lot of female students can be given the privilege to go to school. However, this is based on their readiness," she said.

"I am going to change lives when I am given the opportunity because a tree can not make a forest"

She further emphasized the need for being supported by the government and non-governmental organizations.

Talking about the attitudes of ladies towards abuse, she attributed it to the naivety of some ladies.

She said, "Ladies of nowadays are naive and that was why most of them fall victim to rape. They are mostly carried away by lies and sweet tongue from men because of money, which they need to be enlightened on."

Regarding the issue of water pollution, she said, "You cannot know what is going when you are not there. However, once I know their plights, I will solve them.

"We will bring the government near to people because that is the best way to have positive influences on the people. The government must be close to the citizen to know their problems."

Speaking further, Amodu emphasized the importance of building people than names and making money.

"When you build people you are building the state because the people are the ones that will influence the policy.

"They contribute either negatively or positively and I will make sure their concerns are being heard and publicized."

She added that she believes what is coming is very gigantic and when it arrives people will be glad she was chosen to be their queen.

She said, "I believe that in my office with the help of government, there will be a forum specifically based on the bursary

"I will also visit the less privileged because I love involving myself in humanitarian services. Some of these people lack knowledge and I will make sure they have access to it.

However, she lamented about not being awarded her prize after winning the contest.

She said, "It is so disappointing that I wasn't given my prize as a winner.  Without it, I don't have the resources to start my plans. In fact, there is no money to do letterheadings. However, I am currently looking for another means of getting money to do that because I do not want to be a lukewarm leader."

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor,  Professor Olugbenga Ige, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Olusegun Owolewa said it was a great honor seeing AAUA students emerged as Miss NISUG during his tenure.

"It is interesting that an AAUA student has won the contest this time around and during my tenure as Dean of Student Affairs. Incidentally, I am from Kiribo, in the Niger Delta area of Ondo State, and you can see how happy I am"

However, he said that he was optimistic that the new Miss NIDSUG would make AAUA proud by promoting morals and good conduct.
