As the Students Union Election draws closer, many events have begun to unfold on the campus of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), one of which is the political debate and manifestoes of aspirants which was held today.

The debate and manifestoes which took place at the school's old Relaxation Centre (RC) were organised by the Students Union Electoral Committee (SUEC) in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Campus Journalism (NUCJ).

Students of the institution and different panellists from campus Debate Clubs were in attendance to observe the intellectual exercise and what the candidates plan for the university populace.

The debate was between the opposing candidates vying for the post of Students Union President with the names, Fakaisi Michael Dotun, known as Wolimike, and Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye, politically known as INEC. Three candidates contesting for the post of Social Director also faced the panellists.

The three candidates whose names are Fidelis Uche Nwaji, known as Fidelis Truth; Iwamu Damilare Festus, known as Dammy Lee; and Adewami Adebanji Joseph also known as Water Nation, pledged their allegiance to the students, promising to fulfil their mandates.

Candidate Of Social Director Unveil Their Plans

The three candidates for the AAUASU Social Director promised students of the institution fun-filled social activities on campus.

Reacting to the question of balancing social activities with academics, the candidate spoke about their plans to help students achieve this crucial issue.

Fidelis Truth said, "The Social Director can always discuss with the department holding lecture at the time of the social event to maybe shift the class to another time or find a means to shorten the class to enable class members to participate in the social event."

Dammy Lee in his response said, "The Social Director will in such a situation extend the time for the social event to make sure it does not clash with lectures in departments to make sure lectures do not clash with social events and students have access to all the fun they desire."

In the same vein, Water Nation noted that "Our primary assignment on campus is education, the social director must make sure social events are fixed in days and times in which it does not clash with lectures to make sure students participate fully in lectures and social events on campus."
