The Chairman of the Students' Union Electoral Committee (SUEC) for the 2022/2023 Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Students Union election (AAUASU), Professor Olukayode Afolabi, has said the just concluded election was free and fair.

Speaking with ECHO MEDIA after the declaration of the winner, he commended the process of the election, saying the outcome was the students' mandate.

According to him, the winner, Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye, politically known as INEC, and other winners were elected by the AAUA students.

"The election has come to an end and the SUEC has already announced the results. The election is one of the freest and fair elections in the history of AAUA due to the process provided by the SUEC for accrediting voters and voting which does not allow over-voting or violence.

"AAUA students are all jubilant and rejoicing on the announced results and I hope that AAUA will experience more change for good."

Prof Afolabi further said that the election was proposed to start at 8:00 AM but started late due to the low turnout of voters at the beginning of the election which was later extended by 2 hrs to allow more qualified students to exercise their franchise.

He advise the newly elected AAUASU executives to follow the manifesto immediately after they assume office, saying he hopes the future of AAUASU will be bright in their hands.
The SUEC further clarified the disqualification of candidates, saying the constitution of the StudeUnionion states that if anyone is facing disciplinary action and has not been exonerated he or she would not be allowed to contest any elective position.
