‎Arsenal managed to hold onto that fragile 1–0 lead against a relentless PSG side, but the pressure finally snapped when Mosquera committed a clumsy foul in the box. PSG controlled the pitch, leaving Arsenal gasping for air and desperately hanging on for a penalty shootout that they probably shouldn't have been looking forward to.

Tests, Exams Missed for Sports Won’t Hurt Students — Mayor'bless

‎Following his victory, Akanbi Oluwamayowa, popularly known as Mayor’bles, who was elected as the Sports Director of Adekunle Ajasin University for the 2025/2026 academic session under the Conservative Movement, shared his plans for his tenure and other key issues in an interview with ECHO Media.

‎

‎He secured 1,381 votes to defeat his opponent, Idowu Joshua, also known as Mastermind, who polled 1,327 votes.

‎

‎In his words, the 400-level student of the Sociology department, Mayor’bles, highlighted that athletes’ welfare will be a top priority, stressing the need to provide better support and improve their overall sporting experience in the university.

‎

‎He also addressed issues concerning female athletes, stating what they can expect under his leadership, among other things.

‎

The interview ultimately presents a clear picture of a tenure aimed at restructuring campus sports into a more supportive, accountable, and all-encompassing system.

‎What are the competitions lined up for the second semester? 

Well, we have the AAUA Freshers Cup, the AAUASU Game and the Unity Cup 2.0 coming up in the second semester.

‎

‎So, is the AAUASU Games a new competition?

‎

‎No, it is not new, but it hasn’t been held in the last few years. I want to bring it back.

‎

‎Is there any plan to continue the AAUA Sports Festival?

‎

‎I can’t guarantee that, but I can assure you that the 2.0 edition of the Unity Cup, which I started last semester, will hold.

‎

‎Is it just a football competition?

‎

‎The first edition was mainly football, but the second edition will cover major sports, if not all.

‎

‎What are the plans for female athletes on campus to give them more visibility?

‎

‎The idea is clear. Just like I said in my manifesto, I am not gender-biased. There are already plans in place for our female athletes during the Freshers Cup, AAUASU Games, and Unity Cup 2.0.

‎

‎As a Sports Director, what are the welfare plans for athletes representing the school?

‎

‎Welfare goes a long way. We plan to build a strong relationship with the Chief Head Coach and the Sports Unit. Also, we are seeking more sponsorship so athletes will not depend only on school funds.

‎

‎Is it true that athletes who miss tests because of competitions are not taken seriously by lecturers when they return? If yes, why? If not, what measures will be put in place?

‎

‎Any athlete who misses exams or tests because of competitions should reach out to the Sports Director. A complaint will be forwarded to Student Affairs so that proper action can be taken.

‎

‎What advice do you have for students who love sports but are afraid to participate because they don’t want to have a carryover?

‎

‎Academics should always come first. You must focus on your studies, because there is time for everything. There should be a proper balance between academics and sports.

AAUASU Launch AAUA Sport Festival 1.0

The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Students' Union (AAUASU) has announced the launch of the university's inaugural Sports Festival, tagged AAUA Sport Festival 1.0. 

According to a memo issued by the Union's Sports Director, Raji Ajibola (popularly known as Aji), the festival will kick off on June 28, 2025, at the university's sports complex.

This premier campus event promises to unite students, lecturers, and alumni in a celebration of sports, unity, and excellence. The festival is to feature five events, including:

AAUA Inter-Faculty games, Inter-Tertiary institutions games, Lecturers and alumni games, Students' Union games, Hostelite games

The festival will showcase a wide range of sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, hockey, handball, track and field events, table tennis, and lawn tennis, open to both male and female participants.

"To support the success of the festival, vest will be sold for N6,000. The proceeds will help generate funds, create awareness, and give the festival a better public relations (PR) presence. The vest will serve as a symbol of unity and participation, and we encourage all participants to purchase one," the memo stated.

AAUASU Freshers’ Games sets to Kick off

The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Students’ Union (AAUASU) is set to commence its annual Freshers’ Games on May 20, 2025, at the institution’s sports complex. The five-day event aims to showcase new students’ sporting talents and foster university spirit.

Organized by the Students’ Union, the competition will feature various sporting activities, offering freshers the platform to demonstrate their skills and potentially earn spots on the university’s official teams.

A key highlight of this year’s edition is the emphasis on female participation.

According to the organizers, talented female athletes will be scouted for recruitment, creating more inclusive opportunities within campus sports.

Speaking with Echo Media, the AAUASU Sports Director, Raji Ajibola, popularly known as Aji, encouraged new students to remain passionate about sports and not be deterred by academic concerns.

"Nothing much, like I use to say it’s not over until it’s over. If you want it go for it. Doing sports doesn’t stop you from having first class. Some athletes are discouraged because they believe they won’t have good grades doing sports. They should just plan ahead because who ever fail to plan, plan to fail”.

"Due to certain challenges, we were unable to engage students in various sports, including volleyball, basketball, and handball. Financial constraints have necessitated the cancellation of specific activities. 

"At this time, we will be focusing on male football, as it is widely recognized as the most popular sport among participants. 

"We are also excited to introduce a female five-a-side football event, the first of its kind, to provide our female students with opportunities to partake in the freshers' games and scout for talent that could represent the school in women's football."

"Additionally, we will be organizing a 100-meter race as we prepare for the impending pre-NUGA event, seeking athletes who can represent the school effectively. Moreover, we will include a 4x100 meter relay race in our activities as well" Aji added.
