On the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day celebration, Impact Leaders Club (ILC) of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), on Friday held a programme 'Book a Child' to facilitate the children.
The programme held at Holy Trinity primary school, Okusa, Akungba-Akoko sees the pupils participating in different activities, such as dancing — spelling competitions, and National Anthem recitations among others.
Also, the programme which had in attendance of over a hundred pupils and their teachers' presence addresses the importance of education and good personal hygiene.
Six pupils out of those who participated in the competitions were presented with gifts. The students are, Aregbesola Nifemi, Oloruntoba Nifemi, Ajileye Joshua, Omoniyi Eniola, Oladapo Omowumi, and Iwaloye Deborah.
Speaking, ILC President, Ms. Ajayi Oluwabori, said the programme aim was to make the pupils happy as well as give them exercise books and little refreshments to mark the Children's Days celebration.
"Today, we would have love to impact more than one hundred and fifty [150] to two hundred [200] pupils and our target is to do more to put a smile on their faces because they [the pupils] deserve to be happy," Ms.Oluwabori added.
She, however, admonished Non-governmental Organizations (NGO) and other concerned bodies to work towards the social welfare and healthcare of the pupils.
"Society believes they [NGOs and others] are impactors, who impact the world."
Ambassador Oyinbo Jonathan Ololade stated that the project was specifically to help pupils in need of writing materials as well as celebrate them on the occasion of Children's Day.
Ambassador Jonathan urged Nigerians, an NGO, blessed by God to always impact pupils any day, any time.
In her remark, the Headmistress Mrs. Bankole R.T appreciates ILC for picking and finding the school worthy of the programme as well as making the pupils happy.
Mrs Bankole said: "Government always marks Children's Days for the pupils at Oke-Oka every year, but this year's event would not hold because it is on Saturday.
"But this one ILC did, the children would tell their parents when they get home that some people celebrate Children's Day for them."
She, however, advises ILC not to repent but channel more effort into their impactful good works, which would in the end yield positive results and create lasting records.
