AAUA Mgt Vs Union: Heavy Security Deployed To Scare Students Away From Congress

By Phillip Anjorin

The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) has deployed security personnel into the campus to prevent students from holding a congress.

ECHO recalled that the students union called for a congress on Monday, June 10 which coincidentally was declared by the management as the resumption date for academic activities.

'The Congress was later put on hold due to security concerns and advice from security experts', said Comrade Babalola David (Sir Babovid), the Public Relations Officer of the union.

This was after the management released a circular on Sunday evening forbidding the students from proceeding with the Congress and warned the students that disciplinary actions will be taken against offenders.

Members of the Police force and Mobile Police (MOPOL)  along with their vehicles were heavily deployed at the University Main gate, Sport complex gate and within the campus vicinity to prevent the allegedly cancelled congress from holding.

While speaking with our correspondent, a 400 level student from Law department who pleaded for anonymity criticized the management for taking such action.

She said, "How can they bring in such number of officers when we're not criminals?! Truth be told, the management are scared of another protest erupting from the Congress if the outcome is not favourable to the students. I believe that the fear made them take such drastic actions."

She further blamed the student Union for not carrying the students along with their plan.

She criticized them for hiding the outcome of the previous meetings with the government and governing council while praising the student union of OSUSTECH for being clear in their decision making.
