Faculty of Law Defeats Others At Inter-Faculty Debate and Quiz Competition

The Faculty of Law has defeated other faculties and emerged the winner of the 2021 AAUA inter-faculty and quiz competition

The event which was organized by the office of the Students' Union Vice President and the Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists was held on Tuesday.

Themed, " Covid-19 in Nigeria: Possible Possibilities", it was contested by representatives from the 6 faculties.

The debate competition started with the first round which had representatives from the faculties debate on selected topics, after which 4 faculties qualified for the second round.

The 4 faculties further came up against each other in the final round. This saw the Faculty of Law emerge as the first position with 69 points, the Faculty of Arts took the second position with 66 points, the Faculty of Science came third with 62 points, while the Faculty of SOMASSA came fourth with 60 points.

Meanwhile, the quiz competition also saw the Faculty of Law emerge as the winner with 5 points, the Faculty of Arts came second with 4 points, and the Faculty of Science came third with 3 points.

Speaking on the theme, the guest speaker, Mr. Saheed Ibrahim emphasized the need to fund research in the country and continent.

According to him, it is more important to seek researchers within when there is a problem.

He said" Africa should go back to the root and solve its problem. How many researchers are funded by the government? We should be able to develop vaccines in Nigeria if our researchers are provided with funds. Thanks to international organizations that are funding the ones that are done at the moment"

He added that to fully fight against Covid-19, there is a need for more sensitization on the virus, as well as adherence to the preventive measures."

 The competition was duly judge judged by the guest speaker and selected lecturers across the 6 faculties in Adekunle Ajasin University.
