The President of the Nigerian Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) Chapter, Friday Omosola yesterday urged newly recruited members of the Union to embrace the truth — one of the ethics of journalism.
The training held at SOMASSA LTA4 was to induct new members aiming to find a career in the media industry.
Friday enjoined the members to be objective in discharging their duties and embrace the ethics of journalism– truth, accuracy, independence, fearlessness, impartiality, humanity, accountability and among others.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Peter Emmanuel took the members on ‘Introduction to News Writing and Reporting’ and stressed the need to employ the use of the 5Ws and H while writing stories as they help satisfy readers' curiosity.
Questions ranging from the difference between a blogger and a journalist were trashed out as well as interviewee techniques to enhance the knowledge of the newly recruited members.
Meanwhile, the new members were taken through a practical section to test the knowledge they have acquired during the training in writing headlines and leads for news stories.
The training ended on a note of appreciation by the president who encouraged the participants to develop their skills and build their profile before leaving school.
