The Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ), Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has enlightened its new members on 'who are journalists'.
The Union shed light on the issues that have been the major discussion among Mass Communication graduates and those practising the profession without studying the course.
Speaking at the training program for the newly recruited members of the Union, the President, Friday Omosola revealed that to be called a journalist, there are several pieces of training to undergo as well as ethics to be upheld.
Omosola further warned that journalism is a profession that should not be bastardized through unethical practices by unprofessional journalists.
Omosola who doubled as Editor-in-chief of Echo Media mentioned three core elements of journalism, which are: information, education, and entertainment.
He further emphasized that truth and accuracy are one of the distinguishing principles between a mere writer and a journalist, saying getting the facts right is the cardinal principle of journalism.
He, however, urged the new members to be committed to learning and upholding the ethics guiding the journalism profession.
