In a bid to support campus journalism in Nigeria, the National Union of Journalists has approved the adoption of the Nigeria Union of Campus Journalists as its affiliate.

It also agreed to set up a contact desk for the union at the NUJ Secretariat.

This was made known recently during the visit of NUCJ delegates led by the newly inaugurated President, Samuel Ajala to the leadership of NUJ at the national secretariat in Abuja.

While presenting the plans and projects of the association to the NUJ President, Ajala solicited a collaboration between the unions.

He further noted the need for NUJ to assist in providing mentorship and training to the new generation of journalists on capacity building and ethics of the profession.

Meanwhile, the President of NUJ,  Chris Isiguzo affirmed that the future of Journalism in Nigeria rests solely on the shoulders of the incoming generation, adding that mentorship and training are essential in helping journalists face imminent challenges.

He said, "Newsrooms and media organizations including campus journalists have roles to play in saving our crumbling democracy. This is because the society has reposed their confidence in the media; and if the media fails today, Nigeria fails. If the media fails, democracy fails, because it is only the media that is sustaining Nigeria's democracy today".

Also, the National Union of Journalists President, Chris Isiguzo promised to support and partner with the National Union of Campus Journalists in its forthcoming plans and programs
