AAUASU Promises Financial Aid For Indigents
By Philip Anjorin
The Student Union body of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko has reiterated her commitment towards relieving students facing hardship in the payment of tuition fees.
In an exclusive interview with the Student Union's Outgoing President, Samuel Adesomoju {Sampraise}, he disclosed the union's plan to liaise with the institution's alumni body and other interested parties to pay the tuition fees of indigent students.
According to him, a committee will be set-up to help the selected students. He added, "The committee will be empowered by the constitution of the Student Union to go across all faculties and get names of genuine and sincere students who don't have the means of payment; either half or full.
"For instance, there are some students who are in 400 level, but are yet to pay for their 200 level tuition fees, even as we speak. Such students' fees will be covered for a session, leaving them to pay for 300 level alone," he stated.
Noting that it was a move by the present administration, and might be actualized by the next administration, the president revealed that kindhearted persons have been donating to the cause and the criteria will not include the academic performances of students.
He therefore urged the incoming tenure to be patient and wise in decision-making.
"We're not using academic criteria. So if you have a genuine, sincere reason to show that you're unable to pay the tuition fee, you're eligible. We have about 1000 students who are in this situation and we will try to give them considerations as much as we can."
“It is a move by the Student Union. The money might not come during my era. Definitely, it is coming for the next administration, and people are already donating money to the student union to achieve this target. So, i will implore the incoming administration to be wise, patient and well packaged, as this scheme cannot cover everybody,” Sampraise concluded.
