AAUA Swears In Students' Union Leaders

The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko on Monday swore-in the newly elected members of the Students Union Government, with a charge to effectively deliver their duties.

In attendance at the inauguration were: the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olugbenga Ige; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof Francis Gbore; Dean of Students' Affairs, Dr Segun Owolewa; Acting Registrar, Mr and other principal officers of the university.

While speaking at the event, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olugbenga Ige congratulated the newly inaugurated members of the executive, legislative and judicial arms of the Students' Union Government.

He urged them to avoid maladministration, but work together with interest of the university and students at heart.

The Vice-Chancellor also assured the new administration of granting their requests, revealing that all matters brought to the fore are being looked into.

He said " I have listened to your requests, and I am assuring you that all will be attended to. The interests of our students are paramount and we will always serve it. We want to serve you all in such a way that you will always remember your Alma-mater and give back to it."

"Just two weeks ago, a campus shuttle committee was set-up, and I can assure you that before the end of this semester, we will have more shuttles on campus. We are also working on renovating our lecture halls, providing students with free internet service, building a software that will reduce the stress of late registration."

"Also, the school management knows that if Akungba is not safe, the campus cannot be safe. Consequently, we have met with the Alale of Akungba community, heads of security outfits on this issue. We are also working on visiting the Commissioner of Police on ways to best protect our students' lives and properties."

Prof Ige further enjoined the students' leaders to always take consultation as their watchword.

A senior officer of the  Information and Public Relations Unit of the  varsity, Mr Dupe Balogun, presented certificates to the new executive members of the AAUA SUG.

In his inaugural speech, the 18th SUG President, Comrade Obagunwa Olusegun Daniel stated that his administration would work on the foundation laid down by the past administrations.

Obagunwa further requested for an extension in the hours of power supply, construction of a bus-stop at the from the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences ( SOMASSA) to the newly built Faculty of Arts, renovation of the Students' Union Buildings, and an office for the Vice-President, to aid effective lodging of complaints on females-related issues.

He said " We want to categorically state that the leadership of Comr Sampraise has done wonderfully well in discharging his duties and ensuring that the academic calendar of the University remains attractive and accurate. But then, like Oliver Twists, we will continue to build on the good foundation laid by past leaders to ask for more in other to ensure that the students of AAUA will continue to be treated as kings and queens in their respective departments and hostels.

"Our administration will engage the University management at all time in different ways. One will be to partner the University in areas we should work together to make AAUA not only the Best State University in Nigeria, but the Best University in Nigeria. Two in loco parentis in terms of providing adequate, effective, efficient and timely welfare services to the entire students."
