By Rasheed Aladejana

The Nigerian Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko chapter has urged newly recruited members to put fact-checking seriously as it is important to weigh information.

The media training which was held at the Old Social and Management Sciences (SOMASSA) Lecture Theatre, LTA4 was conducted to provide new members with the knowledge of how to practice journalism effectively.

The Union's President, Friday Omosola said: "Fact-checking is a major tool in journalism because it allows journalists to avoid reporting fake news."

Meanwhile, the new intakes were introduced to the concept of journalism– who a journalist is, how to write and report a news story, the elements of news reports, and the ethics that govern the profession.

One of the new members, Chukwu Favour, a 400-Level student of Philosophy lauded the union for conducting such training for the new fellows.

"I have gained more understanding of what journalism is about, what it encompasses, and the way to become a better journalist," she said.

Other AAUA NUCJ executives who were present at the training are Clarion Olusegun, Vice-President Administrative; Emmanuel Oluwadola, Vice-President Editorial; Oyinkansola Ogunkande, General Secretary; Peter Emmanuel, Public Relations Officer; and some editors from various media outlets under the Union.
