Breaking: AAUASU Election 2024: SUEC Releases Election Date

Electoral guidelines set out

The 2023/2024 Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Students' Union (AAUASU) election will be held on Thursday, 21st of March, 2024.

This was disclosed in a document signed by the new Students' Union Electoral Committee (SUEC) Chairman, Professor Olukayode Afolabi detailing how the election will run.

According to the information, the election will kickstart from 9 am to 3 pm at the school's Heritage Building, also known as the CBT Centre. 


However, preceding the election is the screening of aspirants, display of qualified candidates, and accreditation which will be conducted by the committee.

Also, the election Debate and Manifesto will be held on the 18th and 19th of March, respectively, at the School's Old Relaxation Centre (RC).

SUEC further released the election guidelines for the aspirations and student voters to have a smooth running process.

The guidelines read: "ELECTORAL GUIDELINES FOR THE 2023/2024 SUEC ELECTION

"This is to inform all the interested candidates that are vying for electoral positions in the Students’ Union Elections that the following conditions serve as the addendum to the extant rules for the conduct of Student Union Elections:

"1. ONLY students who have registered for this current academic session (2023/2024) are eligible to vote.

2. Contestants for any position must have at least a 2.50 CGPA as of the 2nd semester of the 2022/2023 academic session.

3. Contestants are prohibited from using any form of vehicle or animal (e.g., horse, donkey, monkey, etc.) to campaign.

"4. Defacing of walls and/or roads within and outside the University premises is strictly prohibited.

5. Campaigns with noise-making such as drumming, blowing of trumpets or flutes, and singing are restricted during office hours, that is, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. 6. Any student facing disciplinary action is not qualified to contest in the election.

"7. Contestants are expected to maintain decorum during and after the students’ union electioneering campaign.

8. Any candidate that has a record of having been found culpable of any misconduct by an appropriate organ of the university shall not be eligible to contest for any position.

9. Any candidate who runs foul of any of these guidelines may be disqualified from contesting. Thank you,
