The much-anticipated football match between the Luminaries of Adekunle Ajasin University, and the Giants of Obafemi Awolowo University ended in a barren draw yesterday.
The round of 16 first-leg of the Higher Institution Football League was held at the AAUA Sports Complex, Akungba Akoko.
The return is expected to be played at OAU Giants' home on July 28, 2021.
The game saw AAUA Luminaries register no shot on target, while their opponent got just one.
Speaking with journalists, coaches of both teams expressed their opinions about the game and what to expect from the next leg.
OAU Giants Coach, Chike said, "We are happy about the draw, but that wasn't what we came for.
Also, he expressed disappointment at the state of the football pitch.
He said, "We will be playing on a better surface at home. This pitch shouldn't have been approved for a football match. So, when we get there, we will play our best."
However, AAUA Luminaries' Head Coach, Abuo Joseph assured that his team will defeat OAU Giants on their home soil in the second leg.
He further added that his team has the right mentality and they are a better team.
In addition, OAU Giant, Olaniyi Muyiwa was named the man of the match.
He said, "I am very happy about being the man of the match. I thank my teammates for the support, as well as HIFL for helping us showcase our talents.
He further added, the draw was unexpected but he was still pleased and believed his team will come stronger in the second leg.
