Echo Media's News Editor Selected for RoundCheck Fact-Checking Training

The News Editor of Echo Media (a long surviving media outlet) at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, Daniel Akinte, has been selected for the Roundcheck Volunteer Programme 2025.

The three-month training for the 4th cohort began on 5 April 2025 with the onboarding of the selected individuals.

Roundcheck is an independent fact-checking organisation in Nigeria, which Volunteer Programme aims to train young people, especially media practitioners on media literacy and combating information disorders.

Akinte will join 22 other selected persons to begin their journey to learning practical fact-checking tools and techniques.

The Roundcheck's Head of Volunteer Network, Faith Alofe stressed that the selection process was highly competitive, but with careful review qualified applicants were selected.

Alofe added that with insights from the facilitators, the cohort will learn how to spot misinformation, verify facts, and uphold truth in the digital space.

"The training promises to be both rigorous but at the same time impactful," she said.

Reacting to his selection, Akinte noted that the application was a trial for him but the outcome has ignited his interest.

He expressed his joy for being selected saying, "I am thrilled and glad to be part of the fact-checking training. I believe it's going to contribute to my journalism career and growth."
