The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) inaugurated the 22nd Student Union executives for the 2024/2025 academic session at the school Multipurpose Hall, OBJ, on March 11, 2025.
After the remark of the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Olusegun Akanbi, the former president of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Students Union (AAUASU), Boladale Oyindamola, highlighted the achievements made during his tenure notably the meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria which has given AAUASU a national recognition and also setting the pace for coming administrations.
The new AAUASU president, Salami Akeem, popularly known as Ologbon, expressed his appreciation to the management for their support and to all the students who participated in the Democratic electoral process after he was sworn into office.
In his words, he vowed to be the voice of the student in critical decisions “particularly in light of circumstances faced by students.”
In addition, he seized the opportunity to present some of the challenges confronting the students which include “implementation and awareness of NEFUND students scheme, security for students on and off campus, renovation of lecture theatres, improvement in the health center amongst others.”
During the event, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, congratulated the newly elected executives. He emphasized the importance of upholding the core values of AAUA student unionism, which include responsibility, transparency, patriotism, and commitment to student welfare.
The VC stressed the importance of integrity for the newly elected executives of AAUASU and expressed an expectation for the general student body to support their efforts. He also acknowledged the previous administration for its responsible governance and maturity.
Furthermore, he urged them to abide by the roles of their office, fulfill campaign promises, and contribute to the interest of the university because “It is a call to serve.”
However, the VC responded to the issues raised by the President and assured him that the matters would be looked into, adding that the president should plead with students to pay their school fees to enable them to execute the demands of the students.
