In a nail-biting finale, the Department of Mass Communication at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, emerged victorious in the 2023/2024 Social Sciences Dean's Cup, defeating the Department of Sociology 9-8 in a penalty shootout.
The match played at the school Sports Complex, saw Mass Communication take an early lead with a goal from Goodness Olukayode just two minutes into the game. However, Sociology equalized at the 36-minute mark with a free kick head goal from Daouda Matthew.
The second half was intense, with Mass Communication's strong defence holding off pressure from Sociology. The match ended in a stalemate, leading to a penalty shootout, where Mass Communication emerged victorious.
The Faculty President, Ojo Olayemi, praised the teams for their sportsmanship and urged all SOSSAite to continue showing unity and support.
A one-minute silence was also observed in memory of the late Faculty Dean, Professor Ebenezer Ogunbadewa.
Notable attendees at the event included the Faculty Sub-Dean, Dr Idowu Harrison, Student Union President, Boladale Oyindamola; General Secretary; Oladele, Sunday; SOSSA Faculty President, Ojo Olayemi among others.
This victory marks a historic win for the Department of Mass Communication, as they raise the cup with golden medals as champions of the 2023/2024 AAUA Social Sciences Dean's Cup.
