The Redeemed Christian Fellowship, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Chapter on Saturday has observed an evangelical outreach through social responsibility of cleaning the public.
The outreach was tagged "Cleanup Akungba" which was organized by the Sanitation Unit of the Fellowship to reach out to the people of the community, preaching the good tidings of Jesus Christ, and cleaning up diets that have littered the surface of the community.
Parts of the community that were visited and kept cleaned are Ibaka Market, Permanent Site, and the University's big and small gates.
Mr. Oluwole Phillip, who organized this program gave reasons for coming up with such an outreach. He clearly stated that the program was inspired by the Holy Spirit and he gave his uttermost thanks to God.
"The purpose for organizing this program was due to our burden towards giving to the society and also preaching of the Gospel to the people," he said, "As Sanitation Unit, one Vision the Lord has given to us is to evangelize through social responsibilities– cleaning the market, cutting bush by the roadside and also fulfilling the vision of Christ, this also goes together in giving back to our environment," he said.
He also expressed his joy as the purpose of the program was achieved as they received a lot of testimonies and it even went to the extent of having those in the neighborhood help them with the cleaning.
Mrs. Olajinbisi Bosede, a market woman going about with her business, expressed her joy towards the outreach. She appreciated the team for bringing up this kind of program, to enlighten the people more about their social responsibility, as members of society.
"I am happy this is happening in our market today because we market women are carried away without businesses and we tend to ignore other important things like going to church and many more. The program serves as a reminder of the importance of serving God and also drawing closer to God because material things will vanish and we will all return to the One who made us," she said.
Miss Ujattah Mercy, a co-organizer of the outreach added that as human beings, we need to prioritize personal hygiene, knowing that 'Cleanliness is next to godliness' as stated in the Holy Bible.
"As much as we take personal hygiene as necessary, it is also important for us to also look at it from a spiritual perspective. We cannot host God in a territory that is full of immorality, ungodliness, unrighteousness, and unholiness. That is why the Scripture says, 'The eyes of God cannot behold iniquity. So, we must understand that God wants the land to be cleaned, purified, and made whole so that HE can dwell in it," she said.
While cleaning the marketplace, Omoyele Israel, a student from the Department of English Studies, Adekunle Ajasin University, reacted said, "Wow! It is good to work, they tried. Hardly today will you see a student or Fellowship like this come to the marketplace to try and make everywhere cleaned. It is a good record they have made and I love this habit. I enjoin them to keep it up," he said.
Ijalade Promise, a member of the team, also expressed his excitement towards the turn-up of the people as well as achieving the purpose of the outreach.
"The program created awareness for the people as it made them conscious of the importance of cleanliness. This cleaning exercise was successful and the Gospel of Christ was also proclaimed in the process, lives were saved during the cleaning," he said.
