Tuiton fee saga has been rocking in Ondo State since the coming to Government of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN. The state owned institutions are faced with one controversy or the other. FERANMI OKUKU (EDITOR OF ECHO MEDIA) writes on the meeting to be held on June 6,after been postponed twice.
The big question on the mind of every students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) is whether the meeting with Ondo State government will held today June 6, as rescheduled .
The meeting is to hold between Ondo State Government, Students Union Leaders of AAUA and OSUSTECH with the Governing Council of both schools.
The meeting is to discuss the tuition fee saga that led to several protests in both schools and the combined forces that protested for Three days in Akure, the state capital.
ECHO can authoritatively confirm that the postponement of the meeting on two different occasions has not made it easy for students to be optimistic about today's meeting- and the outcome.
However, it is a fact students can't stay at home forever.
The state government will also have to state its decision regarding the grievance of the students either out of consideration that the academic calendar should not be delayed further or just to fulfill all righteousness.
It could be recalled that the meeting was postponed from May 27 till May 28. The reason for this according to the SUG president of AAUA was that the slated date was on Children's Day and the Governor was occupied.
The SA on youths and education, Comrade Banjo Adewumi also said it was due to "Logistics reasons".
The second meeting which was supposed to be held on the 28th was postponed based on the fact that the deputy governor wants a full house which we hope will include the governor himself and the Governing Councils.
ECHO gathered that the Governor was attending the Inauguration ceremony in Abuja and the Deputy Governor was going for the House of Assembly Conference in Lagos. Hence the meeting only lasted for few minutes with the Deputy Governor who later announced the postponement.
On the basis of a good name which we believe the Governor still cherishes a lot, the meeting should hold today.
The only question we don't know the answer to yet is whether it will turn out in the favour of AAUA students or not.
We anticipate what the meeting holds.
As at press time, ECHO confirmed that the Union leaders are getting ready for the meeting.
