AAUA DECIDES’23: Live Results Update

The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Students’ Union Executives Election for the 2022/2023 academic session is currently ongoing. 

The election which was slated for today started at exactly, 10:56 AM with accreditation of voters, candidates and their agents. 

According to the statistics released by SUEC, the number of eligible voters is 1860, though as at 12:29pm the forefront runner, Wolimike is leading with 8votes

For the presidential results, Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye(INEC), with 130, while, Michael Dotun Fakaisi, WOLIMIKE records, 134.

However, for Social Director, Joseph Adewami Adebanji, WATER NATION- 73, Fidelis Uche Ninaji (FIDELIS TRUTH)-97, Festus Damilare Iwamu DAMMY LEE records 94.

ECHO MEDIA reporters gathered that voting is currently going smoothly and eligible electorates are easily casting their votes. 

SUEC had earlier assured that the election would be free and fair.

However, the number of eligible voters is relatively low compared to the number of students registered on campus.

AAUA Decides 2023: 'I Am Confident Of Victory' WOLIMIKE assures supporters

As the voting process continues, Fakaisi Micheal Dotun, popularly known as WOLIMIKE, one of the candidates for the post of President of the Students Union of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko has assured his supporters' victory in the election. 

He disclosed this in an interview section with the ECHO Media at the front of the Obasanjo Multi-purpose Hall (OBJ) where he said he would win the election to become the next Students' University President.

Also, he reacted to the yardstick for voting exercise introduced by the school management that only students who have paid their school fees for current academic session are eligible to vote.

He maintained that he is not happy and satisfied with the decision, however, it is the policy of the school.

AAUA Decides 2023: 'We Can Only Trust the Process' Says WoliMike

The students of Adekunle Ajasin University-Akoko (AAUA) are geared up for the ongoing Students Union (SU) election. However, the electoral policy set by the school management has caused discontent among the candidates and students.

In an interview with the press at the OBJ hall, Fakaisi Michael Dotun, popularly known as WoliMike, one of the candidates for the SU president has expressed his dissatisfaction with the electoral policy.

According to him, "I am coming as a surprise to Nigerian students because the semester is still fresh, we can only trust the process because there's nothing we can do now," WoliMike said.

He added that the policy is not fair enough because some of the aspirants will lose votes, and the school should change the policy.

However, he maintained that the 'no school fees, no election' policy will weaken students' turnout for elections.

AAUA Decides 2023: Accreditation, Voting Yet To Commence After Two Hours

Sequel to the scheduled time slated to begin the Student Union Election by 8:00 AM, the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko is yet to commence the election proper after 2 hours of delay. 

ECHO MEDIA reporters on the field gathered that the election is yet to start even when security agents and Student Union Electoral Committees are around.

Reports gathered that the SUEC members were ready and the security officers were also at the venue.

Meanwhile, students have converged at the Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall (OBJ) and are waiting to cast their votes.

Speaking with the General Secretary of Student Union Electoral Committee (SUEC), Olalere Olaleye, he stated that some agents of each aspirant are not around which delays the commencement of the election.

He also noted that the delay in the commencement of the election proper is to ensure that the electronic gadgets for voting are properly set.

 "Some of the agents are not around, we are still waiting for them, and we are testing the systems to make sure it functions well', he said.

AAUA Decides 2023: 'INEC' Expresses Dissatisfaction Over Voting Yardstick

One of the candidates for the Adekunle Ajasin University Students' Union Election for the post of President, Adekoye Mayomi Adeboye, popularly known as INEC, has expressed his dissatisfaction over the voting yardstick set by the management.

Speaking at the election venue, he expressed his displeasure with the current criteria for voting. He confirmed that as it stands now, for any student to be eligible to vote and get accredited, he or she must have paid his or her school fees up to the 2022/2023 academic session.

He added that this policy will discourage a lot of students who have not paid their school fees which will result in a low turnout of voters for the election.

However, he lamented that he has pleaded with the school management to ease the criterion, but there are no favourable responses on it so far.

AAUA Decides 2023: Police Arrive Election Venue

The operatives of the Akungba Police Divisional Headquarters have arrived at the election venue of the Students Union election of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State.

Speaking with NUCJ, Inspector Omojola Emmanuel said their presence was to observe the compliance with the security of the ongoing Students Union election. 

He added that he cannot give any update as he is awaiting the directive from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO). 

He further said that the DPO will speak more with the Press when he arrives, saying he (Omojola) and other police officers on the ground were sent by the DPO.

WHO'LL WIN?

Today [May 4, 2023] is a big day on the campus of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State as students are ready to elect their Students Union (SU) executives for the 2022/2023 academic session.

The campus is buzzing with excitement and anticipation as posters and banners adorn every available space, bearing the names and slogans of the candidates vying for various positions. The air was filled with the sound of manifestoes and debates two days ago, as the candidates made their final pitches to the student body.

The atmosphere in AAUA is electric as students gather in groups, discussing the merits of each candidate and the promises they have made. There is a sense of camaraderie and unity among the students as they will all come together to exercise their voting power to have a say in the future direction of the university.

The excitement is palpable, and everyone will eagerly wait after voting ended today for the announcement of the election results, which will determine the new leaders of the student body.

The fate will be decided today at the CBT Centre of the institution starting from 8:00 AM to 2: 00 PM. ECHO MEDIA gathered that everything is in order, but some students are groaning over the management's decision of 'no payment of 2022/2023 academic session school fees, no vote' which could disenfranchise thousands of students.

Further information revealed that several pleas were made by concerned bodies to ensure those who have not fully registered for the current academic session to exercise their right but it yielded no positive results, posing a further challenge.

According to the constituted authority, before anyone can be declared winner, especially the unopposed, the constitution demands a 2/3rd vote of the electorates that will converge today at Olusegun Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall (OBJ) on or before 12:00 PM for accreditation.

AAUA has over 20,000 students and the number of student voters that will cast their ballots today to decide who will take over power from Ogunsanmi Kolade, popularly known as Multiple and his executives remain unknown.

The general discussion has always been about who will emerge as the president, but this time in AAUA, it is going to be a tough battle between the three candidates jostling for the seat of SU Social Director.

Know The Candidates.

The eligible candidates for Students Union President are, Fakaisi Michael Dotun, popularly known as Woli-Mike, a 400-Level student of Mathematical Science Department; and Adekanye Mayomi Adebayo, known as INEC, a 400-Level student from the Department of Philosophy.

The candidates jostling for the seat of the Social Director are, Ninaji Uche Fidelis (Fidelis Truth), a 400-Level student of Economics; Adewami Adebanji Joseph (Water Nation), a 400-Level student of Plant Science and Biotechnology, and Iwamu Damilare Festus (Dammy Lee), a 400-Level student of History and International Studies.

Vice President (unopposed), Rotimi Temitope (Temmierose), a 300-Level student of Education Management; General Secretary (unopposed), Ojo Oluwatosin Isaac (Apostle), a 400-Level student of Microbiology; Assistant General Secretary (unopposed), Ojo Cosmos Olayemi (King Billz), a 300-Level student of Sociology; Public Relations Officer (unopposed), Ogundaisi Samuel Olatunbosun (Peculiar Sam), a 300-Level student of Law.

Financial Secretary (unopposed), Taiwo Abraham Damilare (Capacity), a 400-Level student of Guidance and Counseling; Treasurer (unopposed), Ajiki Joseph Adebowale (Debo), a 400-Level student of Business Administration; cleared Welfare Director, Omole Ariyo Adekunle (Omole), a 500-Level student of Fisheries and Aquaculture; Sports Director (unopposed) Daramola Oluwatobi Olamide (Jagaban), a 400-Level student of Human Kinetics.

Meanwhile, the Students Union Electoral Committee (SUEC) through a statement signed by the Chairman, Professor Olukayode Afolabi, yesterday disclosed the criterion for the eligible voters to cast their votes.

According to the committee, the following are the eligibility requirements to vote in the elections: (A) All voters must be current students of the University, excluding the 100-level students. 

(B) All Voters must have duly registered for the current academic session as directed by the management.

(C) Voting commences at 8:00 AM. 

(D) All eligible voters are to converge at OBJ hall for accreditation. 

(E) Only voters who are at the OBJ Hall between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM will be accredited and allowed to vote. 

(F) Eligible voters are advised to come with their means of identification. (School ID or School Fee Receipt or Course Reg). G) Election ends by 2 pm.

AAUASU Election: Francophone Clears Air On His Disqualification

The long-awaited 2023 Students Union Election of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko will be held tomorrow, Thursday and aspirants are ready to obtain the leadership baton from the outgoing student union representatives. 

Recall that last week the Student Union Electoral Committee screened out two major contestants who were vying for different important positions in the Student Union.

One of the aspirants, SEYIFUNMI FRANCIS ADEOSUN (Francophone) a 400-Level student from the Faculty of Law, contesting for the position of President has cleared the air regarding his disqualification.

Reacting to his disqualification, Francis Seyifunmi said, "Utilitarian leadership project is not dead, our time will come. Although I intend to lead our Union for the next academic session due to some technicalities which border on the report of the SDC, I was not in any way indicted by any committee, nor do I have any issue with the Security Unit or management."

Francophone further explained the cause of his ordeal with the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC). He said he was invited on the grounds of the last protest and his activeness on a Whatsapp platform tagged "MAKE AAUASU BETTER".

Adeosun Francis said the reports of the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) never indicted him but because the report of the SDC was not approved by the Senate, as such, a pending case which was a major criterion for the candidates to be qualified for elections within the varsity.

"I have your best interests at heart and I will continue to. Let it be on record that I have become a victim for the sake of better Union and Society." Francophone assures the student to stand strong and continue to believe in this project.

He added, "Even they tried to bury us, but we are like a seed, we will germinate and bear fruits. This period is very tough for us but we will triumph. Keep calm and handle this period with maturity, we will be back," Francophone reassured.

AAUASU Election: Management Declares 'Thursday' Lecture-free Day

Ahead of tomorrow's Students Union Election, the management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), has declared Thursday 4th of May as a lecture-free day for all students of the institution.

The lecture-free day is meant for the students to troop en masse to elect a new set of executives that will pilot their affairs for the 2022/2023 academic session. 

The approval circular was signed by the University's Registrar, Olugbenga Arajulu.

The statement read: “This is to inform the students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko that the Vice Chancellor has graciously approved Thursday, 4th May, 2023 as lecture-free day.

"This is to enable all students of the University to participate in the Students' Union election slated for Thursday, 4th May, 2023. All students are therefore encouraged to participate in the election process.

"By copies of this circular, Deans and Heads of the Departments are requested to note the contents of this circular and inform all lecturers in their respective Faculties and Departments, please. Thank you.”
